The Goldcrest Open Leadership Development Programme – transforming leadership in financial services.

At Goldcrest we are financial services specialists, combining first-hand industry experience with expert development skills. We understand the people, the personalities and the performance expectations of the sector. Therefore, we can celebrate the unique characteristics of financial services professionals, recognising the brilliant skills they bring and the nuances of the context in which they operate.

Alongside this, we are unwavering in our endeavour to deliver real and impactful upgrades in the leadership capability of the people we work with. We seek to continuously create opportunities for participants to embrace change, elevate mindsets and enhance skills, to fulfil their own leadership potential and excel for their organisations.

Golden Threads

Golden Threads run throughout the whole programme, providing continuity and touch points between modules. These guide focus towards aspects which need longer term thinking and reflection. We set up the process in the opening module and they are key elements of a successful development process.

Pre-Programme Kick Off

To set your participation in the programme up for success, we kick-off with a combination of meetings with the Organisational Sponsor, the Participant and Line Manager.

With the Organisational Sponsor to clarify measures of success, with the Line Managers to give guidance of what to expect, and with the Participant and the Line Manager to discuss and agree development objectives.

This highly consultative approach is repeated at the end of the programme to ensure that the experience not only launches well but also lands well in the business at conclusion.

Leading Others

The initial module is designed to orientate participants to each other, the programme as a whole and the leadership transition they are embarking upon. We now introduce ‘Leading Others’, where we focus on creating a high performance team with the cohort to demonstrate the key knowledge and skills necessary to achieve this in the workplace.

Using the proprietary Goldcrest framework for high performing teams, participants will explore the importance of trust, listening, feedback, challenge, communication and alignment. We start with ‘Leading Others’ as it brings the cohort together straight away which then benefits all subsequent activities.

Leading Self

To lead others effectively, we must first be able to lead ourselves. This “Leading Self” module equips participants with what they need to achieve this goal.

Looking inwards the Lumina Spark diagnostic tool enables participants to discover their unique personality traits and understand how to leverage their strengths for improved communication, teamwork, and leadership. Reflecting on leadership journeys to date and using goal- setting techniques, participants will establish clear goals and consciously form high-performance habits.

Leading the Business

Senior leaders’ roles require a strategic perspective, appreciating the longer-term trends and key dynamics in the industry. Creating and then maintaining a sustainable competitive advantage is a full- time job that requires vision and an enterprise-wide perspective. This shift requires a deep understanding of decision making, how an organisation functions and the capability to navigate inherent tensions to ensure sustainable performance.

Participants will rethink and transform their approach, skilfully balancing the intricacies of risk and opportunity for effective enterprise-wide, strategic thinking and how to put it into practice with effective leadership.

Capstone Event

The ‘Capstone Event’ is a thorough consolidation of all components of the programme with time to reflect on key insights, successes and determine next steps. Weaving these themes and threads together into a coherent narrative is a vital activity to support integration, appreciate growth and embed learnings for the future.

Line Managers and Organisational Sponsors are invited to come and hear from the participants themselves about their Personal Leadership Journey and Philosophy before celebrating graduation from the programme and enjoying a gala dinner to mark the occasion.

Post-Programme Wrap Up

To integrate the participants’ participation in the programme back into the business, we wrap-up with a combination of meetings with the Organisational Sponsor, the Participant and the Participant’s Line Manager.

With the Organisational Sponsor to evaluate performance in relation to previously agreed upon measures of success and with the Participant and Line Manager to discuss progress made and ongoing areas of development.

This deliberate emphasis on the ending is important in maintaining momentum in the future, ensuring that behavioural change sustains, and business benefits are embedded.

Programme Details

Offsite Venue

The Goldcrest Open Leadership Development Programme is hosted offsite. Getting away from the office enhances the ability of participants to think differently and changes the nature of the conversations. It enables office distractions to be minimised and full focus on the task at hand.

Participant Profile

The Goldcrest Partners Open Leadership Development Programme is specifically tailored for people in the financial services industry who report to an Executive Committee member. They may already be part of your succession plan or be on your radar as a high potential talent that could step into such a role.

We recommend one participant per company for each cohort. This maximises the diversity of the group, boosting the opportunity to forge lasting connections across the industry and ensuring that those connections are broad-ranging.

We plan to run multiple programmes in a calendar year, enabling you to send new participants on a regular basis. This will ensure consistency in the development of your senior leaders and further manage the cost of your investment in their development.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss the suitability of your potential participants with you. Please do get in touch – we are always available to give further guidance.
